Race Report

Mount Desert Island Marathon

Sunday, October 15, 2006
Bar Harbor to Southwest Harbor, Maine

The run beside Somes Sound allowed us to watch a local lobsterman at work

Hauling in the traps

We passed mile 16 and the beauty continued

Brilliant reds on nice fresh asphalt

The way the course was laid out, it was difficult for spectators to get to the early miles. That's ok, we need the support later in the race anyway. Wendy was waiting just before mile 18. When I got there the guy who lived across the road and came out to watch the runners said "She's been screaming for EVERYbody!!" That's my girl...

Wendy got this shot as I headed up one more hill

The Pennysylvania crew

We ran past this boat yard, water just beyond the trees. They are big into "shrink wrap" for winter storage of their boats. Only 10 bucks. I gotta get one of those machines, I can think of a lot of large objects I would have fun shrink wrapping.

One more long view of the water

Uphill at Mile 19

At mile 20 we turned on to Route 102 for the last 10K. It would turn out to be a test.
