The First 13.1

WAY up front in the pack is Chris Lamperski, proudly wearing the blue Playbook
For Life Racing
shirt emblazoned with "Fueled by God". Chris is keeping pretty fast
company, including the #2 finisher (#663, Brian McNeil 2:36:28), #3 finisher
(#1, Robert Miller 2:38:24), and #11 finisher (#429, Mike Hansen 2:48:12).
He deserved to be with that crowd, as he ran the first 13.1 in 1:18 as part of
the 3 runner team "Fueled by God Warriors". They finished in 3:20,
good for 2nd place in the Male Relay division.

Headed down 3rd street in the first mile at a more reasonable pace than
Chris , we caught up with Julie (#328) who was moving up to the marathon
distance for the first time. She would go on to a great finish as she joined
the 26.2 club! Michelle (#2742) turned in a strong performance in the half.

Very nice shirt just past mile 6

Chuck is still smiling early. You KNOW it's cold when he's wearing long sleeves.

Just before mile 7 we ran with Kathy and Kristi, who are involved with
Girls on the Run in the Ft Mill, SC area

While Ron and Chuck were meandering through the streets at their leisurely
pace, Joe (from Greensboro) was flying to a first place finish (1:23:16) in his AG
in the half-marathon. See how far both feet are off the ground as he
heads to the finish line? He was 11th overall out of 1182 half-marathon finishers!
Like we said earlier, we just like knowing fast people...

And just before Chuck and Ron got to mile 10 (see clock below), Josh
brought his pace group across the half-marathon point in 1:44:55.
He would go on to take them to the finish line within 21 seconds of the
the target time of 3:30. ANOTHER fast person we are proud to know,
Josh is the master of pacing...their split was 1:44:55/1:45:26, a difference
of only 31 seconds.

Mile 10 found us in the most beautiful part of Charlotte, the tree lined
archway of Queens Road West

Ron and Kris discuss the need for an "over 6'5" division".

Still vertical and moving at mile 11 on Kings Drive

Melvin Coleman carries this flag in marathons around the country.
Yep, despite the extra load, he still broke 5 hours for the 26.2!

Ron and Chuck finally show up at the halfway point at 2:20:56. Just think
how much less per hour we pay to run than Josh or Joe!

Our #1 Scream Teamer (Wendy) is still cheering while we're taking the picture!

Joe sure looks rested...but remember, it's been an hour since he finished!
