Race Report Myrtle Beach Marathon Saturday, February 19, 2005 |
The marathon is a wonderful event. It tests you, challenges you, aggravates you, punishes you, rewards you. You rarely know what the day will bring - and that is the beauty of the distance. Some days good things (or bad) happen when you least expect it. I call those days my "Serendipity Marathons". Myrtle Beach has always been that kind of marathon for me. I have always been rewarded with a very special day. 2005 was no exception. Words and pictures cannot adequately capture the magic that occurred on this brisk February morning. You will only get a small sense of it....

BEFORE THE RACE: It's time to run at the Beach - Friday night everyone arrived at the Expo We all gather by Karen Bingham's booth - Jeff Whitmire, Karen, Marc Deluca, Bree Horton, Ron Horton, Sommer Baucom (first time marathoner), Ricky and Sharon Scott. It's good to see old friends again. |
|
Amy and Mom and Jo! Pre-race pasta doesn't need to be fancy. We have enjoyed the food at Pizza Roma for the last few years at MBM. It's near the Expo, good food at reasonable prices, and they take care of us. Here (in no particular order) are: Bob and Erin Hardison and daughter Alexis, Holly (from Raleigh), Jerry and Amy Watts, Amy's mom and her sister Jo, John and Colleen Hart, Colleen's brother Pat and his friend Sheila (both all the way from Boston), Jeff, Mike and Linda Griffin. Ron was taking the picture...Bree and Sommer had already left. |
