Working our way to the climb (miles 7-9)

The sun is out, still a little chilly, and the desert is a great place to run.

The miles are flying by! About 12 min for Mile 7, 1:21 so far.

7 miles done!

A lot of the WSMR used to be the Hal Cox ranch. Seems like a hard way to earn a living.

A salute to the marchers from a Blackhawk

8 miles and 1:35 behind us.

There is beauty in the desert - and we had plenty of time to admire it.

Just past mile 8 we hit the paved entrance road. Here the 15 mile marchers turn left, the marathoners turn right - and uphill!

Now it's Will's turn for some foot first aid

We're still running! From around 4,000 feet the climb will continue to 5,400 - several miles ahead

Mile 9 took 15 minutes (1:50 from the start). Yep, even though we are on smooth pavement the climb is taking its toll.
