BROOKLYN - Miles 3-13:

Lauren and Julia around mile 4 on 4th Avenue, then Lauren works the crowds around mile 5. This is the start of the 2.5 million spectators that line the route.

Lauren and Vicki (left) and Carol (right) around mile 5, still on 4th Avenue

4th Avenue - Lauren finds her Superman; Marsha, Paulette, Carol, Mary D in the middle of the action; Lauren passes on a few Low Fives. Here everyone is running a comfortable pace, getting the engines warmed up, and basking in the adulation of the spectators. Life is good.

Around mile 7, Carol stopped to work on a blister. I sent Lauren on ahead but told her to "walk ahead, we'll catch up with you." Somehow that communication didn't work (I'm sure it was my fault) and Lauren made a quick stop then thought we were AHEAD of her. She picked up the pace, and we never saw her again!

On the left above is our Canadian Scream Team around Mile 7. They were PHENOMENAL!!! On the right is..er, according to his shirt - a Nice Weiner. I have nothing to add to that.

Carol and I ran together the rest of the way. On the left is around Mile 7, then she finds she has a street named after her in Brooklyn, then she is seen running strong around mile 9 on Lafayette Street. The street narrows here between brownstones and the crowds get even better!

Around Mile 10 - we take a load off amidst our new Brooklyn friends; then two shots of the ladies with NYFD Ladder Company 102.

Running past the Whiz Kids just past mile 10 - a group supporting Children's Charities in England; Jewish schoolchildren in Williamsburg.

On Manhattan Avenue, then our Scream Team in full force around mile 11.

Ron with Barbie approaching the Pulaski Bridge which marks the halfway point of the marathon. Ron and Carol at the 13.1 mile mark - we're halfway!

View of Manhattan with the UN in the background as seen from the Pulaski. Our greeter was so enthusiastic to see us coming into Queens we figured we would add him to the pictures. WELCOME TO QUEENS!!

QUEENS into MANHATTAN- Miles 14-15:

You only run in Queens for a short while. We spotted this spotted cow on the way UP the Queensborough bridge, which brings you over the East River from Queens into Manhattan.

Carol has made the trip down the 59th Street Bridge (aka Queensborough) and is about to make the left turn under the bridge which will put her on 1st Avenue in Manhattan at Mile 16.
