RACE REPORT - Chelsea Taylor
SHORT(ish) VERSION:
Gun Time: 5:58:18
Chip Time: 5:37:52
10K Split: 1:37:05
Half Split: 3:04:24
20M Split 4:39:11
Overall Place: 33,873 (though, looking
through the results a lot of
people ahead of me had higher chip times – I guess they didn't start
as far back as I did).
The race was great – though very
long (yes, I know that all marathons
are 42.2km) and tough. The spectators were amazing; there were so
many of them and they were all so enthusiastic.
The "Athlete Alert" did
work for me (although it said that re-doing
would erase previous emails, it didn't – all the alerts went to my
address, which I had used as a practice a few weeks ago, to see if any
notice was sent to those registered). So, I ended up missing my
cousin on the course (around mile 23ish) because they were there too
early – I didn't expect it to take 21 minutes to cross the start. I
had no trouble, thankfully, in finding them at the family reunion area
(after walking, what seemed like forever from the finish line).
I started with the 5:30 pace bunny.
Got ahead of them. Stopped for a
bathroom break and fell behind them. Caught up to them. Fell behind
them. Stopped for a bathroom break and totally lost them. Finished
on my own. I did a combination of 10 and 1s, 5 and 1s, 5 and 2s, and
a walk break of almost 5 minutes (not necessarily in that order).
I'll have a more detailed account
of the race weekend (including
making maintenance people let me look in the trash compactor for my
passport) later.
