New York City Marathon

Sunday, November 5, 2006

Finally caught up with Daniel, we hate to see anyone running alone, so...

...the ladies caught up and escorted him for a while. Picture is a little fuzzy 'cos they were running
WAY too fast for the camera to stop the action!

Plenty of firefighters and NYPD along the route offering protection and support

This is 4th Avenue in Brooklyn - a straight shot for five miles with crowds lining both sides of the street.
Our chip time is about 2-3 minutes faster than the clock time.

Erin takes a quick look back (Kim on the left) to see if the Old Guy is hanging on

We found Neal, who was running his first marathon, on his birthday! By coincidence, he's from
Charlotte too

Just past mile 7, I stopped dead still. There on the left was this sign. Even 2,100 miles away
from Arizona, there are people pulling for Liz!

By now, the Scream Team is fighting packed subways. Here they surface at mile 8,
where the Orange, Blue, and Green courses merge.

Yep, there are a few people waiting to cheer!

In place and ready to scream

It's great having Tall Guys as runners and Scream Teamers. Ron and Bob, both up there in
the 6'5" range, can spot each other across the crowds. Ron points out the Scream Team
and Erin and Kim take another turn to Runner's Left.

Still smiling after 8 miles!

Fueled by God, with the help of Gatorade

EVERYbody is feeling good - only 18 miles to go

Erin got EXTRA support from Scream Team (Hubby) Bob.

Now we aren't implying that Kim spent too much time hanging out with John at the water stop, BUT...

...it appears that Erin and Ron had time to take a short nap

OK, time to run again.

The subway was crowded, so Todd asked one of NYPD's Finest for an alternate route to the
next stop, Mile 16 over in Manhattan. Here is where the Scream Team Adventure got interesting!
