New York City Marathon

Ah yes, some traditions never change. The band Squirrels from Hell (website) is always here,
just past mile 19 in Spanish Harlem.

More firefighters, everybody sure is smiling!

We cross the Willis Avenue bridge, gateway to the Bronx. Used to be a red carpet here to greet
runners, but now it's ING Orange. Still appreciated, because it covers a steel grate that is
(a) very slick and (b, if you are like me and fearful of heights) very scary!

Just before Mile 20, Erin made one last face and then she and Kim checked out. They were
too strong on this picture perfect Sunday to let the Old Guy hold them back.

What happened? Seems that the ladies took another short break in the facilities you see at the
rear of the picture, during which time Ron shuffled by...but not for long, this time they passed
and were gone for good

There is one water stop in the Bronx, they also passed out orange slices here. The combination
of cups, water, gatorade, and orange peelings made the footing treacherous, especially for
those of us in the back of the pack!

Cross over the Madison Avenue Bridge, make a left turn and soon you are at the 35K point (mile 21.7)
in Harlem.

The Handmaids of Mary, across from Marcus Garvey park in Harlem, cheered us on
and rang the bell - we felt doubly blessed on this Lord's day

Out of Harlem, you make the turn onto 5th Avenue and run beside Central Park. This is just
before Mile 23, where we made the turn back into the Park

'

Inside Central Park, our Scream Team is ready for the ladies at Mile 24

The field just keeps coming up one of the hills in Central Park.

In Central Park now, just under 2K to go. Shuffling along, passing the walking wounded.
