The Goofy Race-and-a-Half Challenge

Saturday January 12 and Sunday January 13, 2008

Race Report and pictures from Ricky Scott:

This is the start from of the half from my corral. I could have gone up front (and later wished I had), but I opted for the spot before you get to the loud speakers so that I'd still be able to hear later.

I got sick over New Year's (not from partying). Sick as in sick. So I opted to try and run the half and survive the full. I mean run like I did in Nov and Dec. But I could not. I think the temp and humidity had a lot to do with it, Plus, I'm still not up to 100%. Since I decided to run, that's why there are no other pictures until after I finished. This is the 12 mile marker, right as you head back into Epcot. I thought the lady on the right side of the poster had the weekend summed up nicely.

Sharon just after she ran by mile 12. I was then able to do a half mile, before she did her last mile.

Sharon finishing.

Us after the half, wearing our Donalds.

Sunday morning was not much better, there is a fog in the air, that almost made it feel like it was misting. We actually put on one of those 98 cent rain coats and I sat in the road like last year sweating.

At one point, this lady was in front of us in black tights, a coat over a long sleeve shirt and gloves.

It was really warm again. I decided to just run a mile and walk a minute which I did up until the half. I had to forgo the hat and shirt at mile 4, I couldn't take it anymore. (I loop my tank around my neck and down my back and Sunday, I had to keep squeezing the water out of my shirt as it kept getting so heavy that my shoulder were cramping.

Mile 20 picture. I was so happy to see this sign, I felt like Christmas had come. This is where I made the decision to retire as soon as I get to the finish.

At MGM, (now apparently called Hollywood Studios) I decided it would be easier to sell junked cars than run anymore. Who wants to buy this baby?

I violated all the rules I've learned over the years. After I finished, I spread my race blanket on the asphalt and laid on the ground for an hour before I went looking for Sharon. When I finally got up, I kept seeing these guys with pink birds on their head and pink tutus around their bodies. After I took this picture I found another 3 behind them. (They all did the Goofy!)

I saw all sorts of guys dressed up as girls this year, I've seen it before, but not quite the numbers I saw this year.

Lastly, we're done with our Goofy and Mickeys
