We shared the course all day with other runners (not in the race) and several mountain bikers.
Some of the bikers were just out for a ride, others were supporting the race. Their offers of gels
and water made you always feel you were being taken care of. Here the course crosses a nice
bridge, then goes UP and UP and even more UP...

By now the course had dried out as the wind was howling. We could see tops of trees bending
WAY over, and once I had to dodge a falling limb. Thank goodness for the tree cover, it would
have been a brutal day out in the open. Along here is about where my back went from pretty sore
to nearly unbearable. The rest of the day was a death march.

Loved these boys. They blew those whistles all day long for us.

Another volunteer near mile 15.

By now the few people behind me (like Lisa and William) started to gradually overtake and pass.
No problem, that provided an opportunity to say hello again!

It's just past mile 16 for me, I'm headed back and Robert is headed out, still moving!

Just over the bridge at Mile 18...

...is - imagine that - another hill!
