About This Year's Ride

How You Can Help

We will have 120 riders and support personnel making the trip this year.
We need your help. How? Here are a few ways:

  • Money. We need money for fuel, lodging, and other expenses for all the riders and support crew PLUS we want to add to the scholarship fund for Charlotte's Finest Legacy Foundation. With more participants this year (more than double last year's rider total), the total $$ needed will increase. Finding one donor to write the Big Check would be great; however, it wouldn’t take that many small donors to make a big difference. Last year the community was very generous and we were able to meet our fundraising goal. We know this year will be a challenge - and due to the number of riders, our goal for this year is $60,000.

  • Bike to DC partners with Charlotte's Finest Legacy Foundation, a charity established in the wake of the loss of CMPD Officers Shelton and Clark. Any money raised in excess of expenses will go toward a scholarship fund for students interested in a career in law enforcement. Click here for details from their website.

  • Vehicles. We are still working on our vehicle needs. Last year these companies helped us, we have not yet finalized arrangements for this year.:
  • U-Haul provided a 17' truck to haul luggage and food during the trip.

Coach America and Rose Chauffeured Transportation helped us with coaches to transport our officers back from DC to Charlotte after the end of our ride.

Charlotte Van and Storage transported our bicycles back from DC to Charlotte after the end of our ride.

We still need fuel for the vehicles, it's a major expense.

  • Lodging. We have reservations in Asheboro (Hampton Inn), South Boston (pending - Holiday Inn or Fairfield Inn), Richmond (Hilton Garden Inn), and DC (Homewood Suites)– but have been unable to get any “deals” when making those reservations. If you have any contacts with any of those chains that might be able to help us with comped rooms or even discount rates that will make a big impact. Any help here would be huge - lodging accounts for most of our expenses.
  • Food and drink. We had several generous donors last year who gave things like:
  • Gift Cards for meals (Thank You Subway)
Gift Cards for groceries (Thank You Harris-Teeter, Sams Club)
Water and sports drinks (Thank You Coca-Cola, Harris-Teeter, and Pepsi)
Snacks along the way - crackers, pretzels, chips (Thank You Lance)
Gels, Nutrition bars (Thank You Carolina Smoothies, Inside Out Sports, Harris Teeter)

These were lifesavers - we need such generosity again this year!
  • Publicity. Spread the word about the ride. Direct people to this website. Even if you don’t raise money, it will raise awareness.

Want to make a tax-deductible contribution?

Our Credit Card donation capability is not available right now, we expect to have it online soon.

In the meantime, you can donate by making your check out to:
