Race Report Marine Corps Marathon Sunday, October 31, 2004 |
|
BEFORE THE RACE: Took Amtrak to DC, arrived Friday and went by the expo where I met Miles, the MCM mascot, and some new friends from Houston, Texas. Miles had guaranteed entry forms for MCM2005 - which will be the 30th anniversary of the Peoples' Marathon.
On the left is Shaun Kinley (http://www.kinleystudio.com) the artist who painted this year's poster. He is posing beside the original (bids were up to $700 when we went by. I passed). On the right Erin - one of our first time marathoners - wins a Marine Corps coffee mug on the pullup bar. |
|
Saturday was spent sleeping late and planning our running/scream team support for Marathon Day. We made a visit to the start line - beside Arlington Cemetery, and the Finish Line - at the Iwo Jima Memorial.
Erin and her Dad and husband (Bob) in front of the Iwo Jima Memorial.
Ron and Erin at the finish site - it's the last time he is ahead of her at the line |

Arlington Cemetery. On the left, a man kneels beside the grave of his son. The gorgeous autumn leaves frame his grief in quiet glory as row upon row of white headstones remind us of the sacrifices made by so many for our freedom...including those still Unknown. |
