Breakaway to the Beach

CENTURY SATURDAY

This is one of the premier events we participate in each year. It's not a race, but a ride to Myrtle Beach, spending time with friends while raising money for MS. On Day One (Saturday) you have two options: Century or Diaper Dash. This year the Century Route out of Weddington, NC was 110 miles. Those choosing the lesser (75 mile) option left from Rockingham. They missed most of the heat and hills because they prefer spending time on Saturday afternoon with a massage, comfortable chair by the pool, and cool beverages in hand while they enjoy the camraderie in Florence, SC.

Mike (flamingos), Ron (NCSU colors), and Jeff (UNC) are joined at the start line by Elizabeth and Scott and Marty.

On the left, the Beach Cruiser (yep, a single speed making the 110 miles) gets ready while
on the right the World's Greatest Scream Teamer, Wendy, gets us on our way.

Jeff is riding new carbon and Elizabeth keeps an eye on her Boyz.

Elizabeth smoked the 110 miles on her Lightspeed. Notice the guy in white (24 Hours of Booty jersey) behind her? He'll keep showing up.

Wolfpack and Tar Heels are cycling together, but it's Game Day at Noon in Raleigh. At this second rest stop, Elizabeth and Jeff and the Xtreme Guys step up the pace. Just after they left, Mike and Ron almost get hit by a deer!

Cross over the state line into SC, not a lot of bike OR car traffic on the Century route.

Mike brings us into Pageland, SC - Watermelon Capital.
