From the Running Reverend:

Some of my favorite songs I've heard while running races...

"Running on Empty" (very funny when played in the last mile of a long race)
"Theme from Chariots of Fire" (unfortunately this one makes most folks want to run in slow motion)
"Eye of the Tiger"
"Theme from Rocky"
"Scotland the Brave" (must be played on bagpipes)
"Soul Man" (must be played slightly off key by a high school band)

My favorite workout CD for working out indoors (and I'm showing my age here) is the sound track from "Top Gun" (makes you want to go FAST)

Best song at a race for me was the inaugural “Rock ‘n Roll” Marathon in San Diego.  I forget what mile it was but we were working a way up a hill just as one of the bands stopped for a break.  One of the guitarists saw us struggling up the hill and broke into a solo version of “It I Only Had a Brain” from the Wizard of Oz.  We finished that mile with gales of laughter!

From Maureen:

Great idea for compiling the lists. I got some ideas for new music. I just got my Ipod and love it. Having a great time setting up a playlist for my runs. This is what I have so far - yes, I'm a HUGE Mellencamp fan - but the beat is soooo good. (My boys gave me tickets to a Mellencamp concert coming up in June for Mother's day). My choices don't have to do with 'running' in the lyrics so much as whether the music energizes me. According to my Ipod this is 1.2 hours of music. Enough for my everyday runs.
